Well, since the Dinwiddie thread went a little (okay, a lot) off-topic, I thought that I might start a new thread on Amelia.

I went perusing the FCC website a bit, and came across this. I'm not an expert at that site, and maybe W4UVV can help us out some, but I read it to indicate that the following freq's are assigned to this system (callsign WQBQ652):
  • 151.1225
    151.3250
    151.3850
    153.9875
As I said, I don't really know the status on this, but I will plug them into the scanner and see what I can find.

On a related note, I found that there is a pending application for Amelia County with no callsign approved, for 956.44375. This isn't narrow band, it's the narrowest band! Anyone have ideas on this one? Perhaps a typo? Perhaps a freq for MDT's (which I have to REALLY doubt would happen in Amelia)?

Happy scanning...

If you look at the attachments to the application you are referring to (0002019005) you will see that the 956.44375 frequency will be used for wireless water meter reading. It will be extremely low power; the idea is that the meter reader drives down a street with a computer that automatically records the meter readings as he/she goes by different addresses.

I had to drop a friend off at RCVA's Mountain Road location last week, and peaked in the window of the install shop to see a complete radio system set-up in the bay (much like it was before the Powhatan system was installed a couple of years ago). Since I don't know of any other locality getting a full-blown system, I would assume that this is Amelia's. I'll keep everyone posted...

God, this is an old thread! Anyway, the Amelia VHF system is now alive and well, and the fire/EMS channel plan is here in the RR database now. I don't have the Sheriff's Office info yet.

Enjoy!

I am getting traffic on 151.325 and 151.1225. The traffic on 151.1225 has a DCS of 532 and seems police-related. The traffic on 151.325 was definitely police-related.

As usual John is correct. 151.1225 mhz. is the Sheriff's Office. The input is 155.1825 mhz. A S+20 data transmission that recently started transmitting a few khz. below 151.325 mhz. tends to wipe out hearing anyone except the Waverly, Sussex Co. PD, pl 179.9.

Amelia Co. Relook

After reconciliation of my database for Amelia Co., and WQBQ652 license I have 3 unresolved frequency input/simplex issues. First, I cannot confirm 154.1825 mhz. is the input to 151.1225 mhz. It could be 155.1825 mhz. or 155.6700 mhz. One of the two frequencies not input to 151.1225 mhz. would be input to 151.325 mhz. The remaining frequency probably is a simplex frequency. I'm probably too far away from Amelia Co. to hear the input frequencies. Someone closer with 2 scanners/receivers should be able to id what is what.

In summary:

151.1225 mhz. Repeater Input: ?
151.3250 mhz. Repeater Input: ?

Possible repeater inputs: (One of these mobile frequencies probably is simplex).

154.1825 mhz.
155.1825 mhz.
155.6700 mhz.

151.1225 - Amelia Sheriff - Dispatch
151.385 - Amelia Vol. Fire Dept (Companies 1;2;3;4 & 5)
153.9875 - Amelia Rescue

151.325 is one I have never heard of.

39.540 is active at times when Amelia ("Central") contacts a VA State Unit.

I have a solid confirm on 155.1825 [dpl 532] as input to Amelia 151.1225 [dpl 532] as of last fall.

I also heard traffic on 154.1825 [dpl 532] after hearing folks talk about switching to ch-2, although my reception on this was scratchy.

Someone might want to double-check.

151.325 had been pretty active as a repeater with P25 digital audio just before these other freqs came into use. Most traffic that I heard was regarding getting rides back and forth to the Commtronics shop in Ettrick.

151.3175 is a very active voice channel for STARS on the tower at SPHQ. I can't imagine anyone nearby trying to coexist on 151.325.

Have heard nothing on 155.67....abandoned the same time as 151.325, perhaps?

Apart from this, everything on the RR database for Amelia was looking pretty good to me. Haven't been down there in a while, but maybe I'll get to head out that way during the holidays.

The equipment for the 956.44375 mhz. county frequency is made by Sensus who makes digital remote sensing equipment for water, gas, electric or heating systems. The remote sensor location is approximately 1 mile NNE of Rt. 360 near Winterham and not much else. There appears to be only a defined partial road to the location. The remote sensor uses a mobile antenna vertically polarized mounted 6.5 ft. off the ground and +/- a watt or so power. It may be a county water well or possibly a water tower level or pressure threshold level controlling a pump. It also could be something else requiring remotely applying electrical power on/off to something. Documentation for the other frequencies already is available for the searching.

John, thanks for the info on the 900Mhz freq, interesting to know.

BTW, I didn't expect to see a thread I started a year ago come back to life! :)

Amelia Sheriff Ch-2

I was passing through Amelia today, and got again a solid confirm that Sheriff F2 is 154.1825 [d532] simplex.

Also, the relatively new Merlin Aerodrome on Bevils Bridge Road was using 123.300 for CTAF. If you see a sailplane overhead, or a Piper Cub in vintage US Army markings, try this freq.
