Yes, it's true. Yet ANOTHER name change for the radio family that traces its legacy back to General Electric.

In the future, your Harris radios will be shipping under the new name and logo, L3 Harris.

History indicates that eventually the Harris name will be dropped and the radios will just say L3 on the badge.

Motorola LMR stuff is Motorola Solutions, "just" Motorola is now with the phones, and belongs to someone else.

Motorola LMR stuff is Motorola Solutions, "just" Motorola is now with the phones, and belongs to someone else.

Actually, it's Motorola Solutions (MSI) for LMR and Motorola Mobility (now a subsidiary of Lenovo) for cell phones. MSI is the direct successor of Motorola, Inc., whereas Mobility was sold off rather quickly.

The point, though, is that you don't see APX or XPR radios branded "Motorola Solutions". They are all still branded simply Motorola with the iconic "batwings" /\/\ logo. There is no mistaking whose products they are, regardless of what the legal business name might be now.

That's the point. An ancient Motrac or HT220 has the same name and logo on it as today's APX8000 and APX8500. You know it's the same brand even if there have been some changes to Motorola.

I mean, EF Johnson has changed their labeling over the years but as of the first of the year, EF Johnson has been fully absorbed by Kenwood (and some Johnson employees have been pushed out). It’s no longer EF Johnson Viking, and EF Johnson Atlas. Just Kenwood Viking and Kenwood Atlas.

GE should have remained GE. They built a hell of a radio back in the day but the company never seemed to spend as much money on glitzy marketing and sales that Motorola did. CEO Jack Welch scrapped the land mobile communications division from GE because "they weren't profitable enough". Gotta spend money to make money, even when you have a quality product.
