Ok, just got my 800 (used, like new). Like the feel of the radio. Following the Menu is kind of easy. Got used to going through a 396XT's menu. Kind of the same. Upgraded DSP, and CPU. Like the audio, screen needs getting used to, loaded my favorite systems, just three for now, to get the scanner up and running. Good thing I'm familiar with the object oriented memory. Made it easy to work with the configuring. Just wondering if the "T" flashing on and off is normal. Just have two systems enabled. Like the fact that I can search for new TGID's, and the encrypted ones are silenced. Can't wait until I have a bit more time to get it configured with all my scanlists.

"T" flash is perfect while scanning a trunked system if the flash appears to be very regular. If you, at the same time, scan a non-trunked system, the "T" will disappear during that portion of the scan. If you are scanning a trunked system only, and only see the "T" occasionally, or never, you will not hear much.

You can't load any data by hand...there is no number pad on it. The software is very easy to use. Why in the world, especially with that scanner, would you pay Scanner Master to program it for you?

Absolutely, to keep from running on batteries indoors, a USB cable is used, and the same cable transfers the programming data. Turn of the radio and upload, couldn't be easier.

Thanks, rwier. I figured that might be the problem. I had loaded two P-25 systems into the scanner, and wasn't getting anything on the second system. Looked at the software, and noticed it loaded from the library as a motorola system. A quick click on the system type, and a reload of the scanner. "T" is flashing normally now:) I haven't had a problem with the pause problem yet. Have only had the scanner for just over 24 hours. I did notice a click at the end of transmission similar to what was posted in the Uniden forum about the HP-1. Not annoying, just there. Got it to mainly be an additional scanner in the shack with an occasional trip mobile. Really do like the audio. Much nicer than my 106. Got close to a cell tower earlier today while mobile, and it actually did not wipe out all the voice traffic on my local system. Chopped a little and that was all. Definitely a cool scanner.

Hi N8,

How about a little jewel of my own device :

How do you know where to set the squelch when scanning a P-25 trunked system? Watch the responses chime in saying something like "Don't you know the squelch control has no effect on a trunked or digital system?"

Sometime, but not always, while successfully scanning a trunked system, turning the squelch control fully counterclockwise will cause the "T" to disappear. I believe at that time operations are impaired. Turn it back slowly clockwise until the "T" come back. Full operations are resumed. That's how I set the squelch, even if it has "NO EFFECT", lol. Just my opinion, no one believes it.

The reason for that, is it slows down the scan of the CC's, and doesn't lock on as quickly. Just did a quick test, and mine dropped out for a couple of seconds. I am blessed that for the three main systems in my area, towers a very close to me. I can actually monitor my county FD without an antenna! Including going mobile. Being that I've only had the 800 for a couple of days, I'm learning the key pushes needed to enable and disable a scanlist. Truly like the fact that if there is a system that I want to monitor, just go to the library and load it. My favorite way of scanning is to develop my separate V-folders and load them for my travels. But, sometimes, the road takes a detour, and I would be able to add some additional listening:) Sure does have an appetite for batteries though:( Have played with the light settings. Found I can use an old Motorola Razr car charger and AC charger to power the scanner.

Update

Nine days into owning the 800. Things I really like, the UID # shows both dispatch and the mobile, audio--outstanding, screen is easy to see with the backlight on (day and night). Once you learn the menu, very easy to use, **EXCEPT MOBILE** This was going to be my new portable in the car. Bought a 396XT for going portable. Much easier to use mobile. Haven't figured out the recording part yet. But, will get it going for the Labor Day weekend before the s**t hits the fan:D

One of the threads I read somewhere said to turn the squelch knob fully to the left.....then just barely back it off then leave it alone.

Since I have some conventional frequencies on most of my scan lists I turn it to squelch...until it stops on a frequency then back it of so it clears to scan.
