Looking to install antennas on my new SUV in VHF, UHF and 800. Anyone have opinions on the Phantom Series and Phantom Elite series in the above bands? Better then the standard 1/4 whip?

I've got a 800mhz Phantom Elite in the roof of my van. It kicks some serious butt. Works very well, low profile and looks slick.

I have the 800mhz Phantom Elite and it just works amazing!
Very rugged and you don't have to worry about it when going through car washes!.
Take care

They do work better for mobile use. I've learned from my mistake when i went for MAX signal performence with the whips. But quickly learned that they are great when standing still but when moving are about as useful as wrapping tin foil around stock antenna to boost signal heh...The bending of the whip completely distorts the field of antenna and drops all the signal the faster you are moving....Plus they do work a lot better in enclosed area's like city driving or being out in woods. This I've tested myself with a 800mhz 5dB antenna whip and a 3dB phantom. Although the 5dB whip picked up a better signal at times, the phantom worked in MANY more dead spots the whip got NO SIGNAL...These tests were using the same NMO mount in same spot. Just simply swaping the antenna's for controlled testing in several spots on my hour drive to and from work...I unfortunately still have long whips for VHF and UHF low I have to get around to converting eventually.

"The Phantom uses patented Field Diversity with both vertical and horizontal polarization components. This makes it far superior to standard whip antennas, especially in urban environments."

I bought the Phantom back a while and had it on a mag mounton the Durango. It worked OK but not to where I was thrilled to death. On the move it was hard to tell the difference between the RS800 Mhz duck andtenna inside the truck vs. the Phantom. I'm in the Minneapolis metro and of course there are some dead spots so it was really hard to tell.

BIG BUT, two weeks ago, I had the hole drilled by a radio service company (I don't have the tools) and the Phantom is permanent on the roof. BIG difference now. Very good reception and yes, I still hit a few dead spots driving but hands down a great choice in my opinion. Should have mounted it a long tme ago... Good luck.

The 800 is a beautiful antenna, I have never heard a bad thing said about it. Liked it so much I thought I would try one of the tunable ones for the 150-160 range. Unless I was shipped a bad one, I was not happy with it (BIG understatement) and would not recommend it.
