Hi, I'm wondering if an aftermarket antenna would pick up fleetnet better on a BC296D. What antenna would suit the job, and where can I get it?

Thanks!

You can try a discone, like the one available from Radio Shack.Think they still have it.Just be advised it can overload the frontend of the receiver, and make matters worse.I live in RF alley, and my Optocom overloads with it.Putting the attenuator on helps a bit,but VHF-Hi in my area has lots of intermod from pagers etc.Stock antenna works best for me.

Radioworld,or Durham Radio have scanner antennas.

You can also use a cheapie ham 2 meter base antenna, If all you want it for is fleetnet it will work well as it will be narrow banded and have some gain. I use a Comet dual-band (8') antenna on the roof of my house and listen to the towers in Hamilton, Alymer, Simcoe, Ballinafad, and Listowel with no problems at all.

Antenna for Fleetnet

Are you looking for a handheld antenna? I got one from Radioworld for the 2m band and seen huge gains in my signal in the fleetnet range.

I can usually pick up the orangeville police in around the 401 and 400 no problem with it.

ActuallY Bubbles, Mike Smith is a musician.

He was in a band.. the name escapes me now but it began with an S. They were played on 102.1 here in Toronto quite often. Bubbles is actually Mike Smith, the bands guitarist. A friend of a girlfirend at the time was their manager.

Bubbles is also Anne Murray's nephew.

The name of the band was Sandbox. Their main song was "Curious.' Bubbles was working on sound for the movie TPB and I guess he was impressed the directors with his acting.

Back on topic, I use a J-pole made out of copper pipe at home and it works great! In Harriston, I can pick up the Listowel, Durham, Wingham, and Primrose towers. Listowel comes in the strongest and it has most of the talkgroups that the other ones have anyway. But yeah, any kind of 2m or discone antenna will work great.

Now back to offtopic.. My favourite trailer park boys episode was when Ricky stole the bank machine. That was hilarious!

I'm from Guelph so I'm pretty much all fleetnet. I really have no idea what I'm doing, I just want to be able to get cedarwoods so I can have my MOH fix.
