Hello

I'm looking into buying the Watson W-889 Tele Gainer BNC Portable Antenna or the Austin Condor All-Band Portable BNC Antenna from scannermaster.com . Which one is better for scanning the following frequencies 151-174Mhz and 406-470Mhz? This antenna is for the PRO-106. I would like to hear from owners of either antenna. As always I Thank-You for your feed back.

I posed a similar question on the antenna forum not too long ago. Someone suggested this Radio Shack telescopic antenna:

Center-Loaded Telescoping Whip Antenna - RadioShack.com

...which it turns out I already had. It makes a big difference on the VHF frequencies. You may want t consider that one in addition to the two you mentioned.

Here's my two-cents worth: I have the W-889 on my GRE-500 and it does a good job on the frequencies I listen to, which are low-band to 800 trunking. It especially does well on low-band. I also have the W-881 attached to a modified NMO mount on my car, and it does well on all frequencies too. I have never tried the Austin Condor, but it looks to be large and not very flexible in the pictures I have seen. The W-889 is a telescoping metal antenna, but the W-881 is the rubber-duckie type and is flexible. The two I have are the BNC versions, which I ordered from ScannerMaster.

Thanks for repling to my question. I have the RS Center-loaded telescoping whip antenna, and the WSMA-881 in this antenna i'm using a bnc to sma adapter. I just wanted to try a new antenna to see if my reception will improve in my PRO-106.

If you want an antenna that really works, you need to get the super gainer. take it from me who owns one and to me, works better than my telescopic home made extendable antenna. you honestly wont find antenna that works better on vhf hi band than the super gainer. if you want a good 800MHz antenna, buy the larson Tuf-Duck 800MHZ antenna, to me, both the super gainer, and the 800MHZ antennas are worth every penny spent.

i originally bought mine at durhamradio.com. (larson Tuf- Duck)
heres the url:

800BNC 800MHz Ducky with BNC Connector - Durham Radio Sales and Service Canada

It won't say what the brand and the name is on the web site, but it will say that its a tuf duck and its made by larson on the package.

this antenna is fitted with a BNC adapter, so if your scanner has a SMA adapter on it, you'l have to get the BNC to SMA connector. (not expensive)

Which of this antennas will do the job for monitoring the frequencies 152-174Mhz and the 406-470Mhz range? I already have the RS antenna SUper gainer 881 and the larson tuf-duck 800Mhz antenna this is installed to my BCD396T works fine for 800Mhz.
