A bumper doesn't really give any significant ground plane, at least not for anything that would suggest a 102" whip - so I'm thinking you're primary concern is structural. RadioShack sells a trailer ball mount - which would be structural and low enough that your antenna might have a chance at clearing the burger king drive through. What are you listening to anyway? SUBLANT?

102" Must be CB..... lol Anyway do you have a trailer hitch???? LOL Well your headed into the area of having to drill a hole in the side of your Jeep,..... and hook a ball mount...... or a hood lip mount and put a clamp on the luggage rack and do the old fold technique.

Wow

Not really Much room on a jeep grand cherokee to mount a 102" Whip. Sorry to say but either the Bumper mount made by radio shack or the Hitch Mount Idea other then that you are SOL. I mean really where else are you going to mount it. Try the infamous Mid-Air mount it should stay perfectly in place.

Why on gods green earth do you want to use a 102" whip? Tunable fiberglass is much better plus if your going to off-road with it in most clubs they won't allow the 102" whip.

However I have a 102" whip on mine, drilled holes in the roof and mounted it. The mount still supports a 4' fiberglass *if* I wanted to. I like the 102" whip because I can fold it down for trees and such yet still have a nice flag holder when playing on the sand dunes. ;)

Caveat, drilling holes in mine isn't an issue as the first year I had it, I took a sawzall to it.

Hoped to get a response from ECPD279... was curious as to what he drove... I assume from his last post it's not a Jeep

Look in his pic <snicker>

Let's face it, if you're so worried about performance to use a 102" whip, drill the hole for it.

Now, can anyone tell me how to mount a stationmaster on a GC without drilling holes or using bolts?

MillerMatic 175.
MillerMatic 175?... wait... thats a welding machine ain't it?
All kidding aside I was serious about the mounting problem on the '02 GC... It's too new to be drilling holes in the body and it would not do much for the value someday when I go to trade it in (these GC's aint cheap)
I have a whip on the '88 because it's an '88....and yes, it needs to be a steel whip because of performance considerations

I live in the Bay Area, we don't HAVE any off-road. I drive a 2WD Ranger for crying out loud. I just can't picture a CHEROKEE off the highway, especially since there are no pics in that link up there.

Sid,

We have a few miles of off-road still left up here. :)

When we were still on low band up here, we were constantly getting the long whips with the sping and ball side mounted on our Blazers ripped right off the fender by trees when on dirt roads and such. Finally switched to bottom loaded roof mount AS antennas and had much fewer problems. Even the CHP has abandoned the long whips. With the quality of sheet metal in vehicles today, I can't imagine how a 102 " whip will do after encountering a few trees.

Actually, I does quite well.... I'm hitting stuff all the time on the '88 and between the flexibility of the whip itself and the spring no harm done...
I recall seeing a picture somewhere of a mount that attached to the body, behind the taillight, and extended out through the slit under the tail light hence no holes drilled in the body.
I was hoping that maybe somebody in the antenna forum had run across this before as I did and might remember where they saw it.

If you had an idea how you wanted to do this, why didn't you just say so, instead of playing Mr Nebuchednezzar's "guess what I dreamed last night" game?
