I had several of the mobile versions NIB for $45 plus shipping. If I have one left you can mount it to a Larsen NMO base adapter and have a better mount than the stock A/S base version.

Mine are the NMO roof mount including the mount but they fit anyone's NMO trunk lip or mag mount.
PM me for further info.

The only A/S antennas I know of that are rated that wide are the old MON series scanner types which are no longer made. The base adapter has no coil inside but they do have a large SS flat washer on top that is part of the antenna matching.

If you find another NMO to threaded stud adapter from another company like Larsen that is about the same height, does not have a coil and has the same thread stud on top it will probably work ok.

The Larsen NMO ground plane base kit part number is BSAKIT (left picture below). It terminates in an SO-239 connector which accepts a PL-259 connector (also called a UHF connector).

For all-band scanner applications I prefer to use the Antenex model MBCN (center picture below with a sample antenna attached) which is also an NMO ground plane base kit but it terminates in an N connector. The N connector is much better/lower loss at higher frequencies (especially 800-900 MHz) compared to the SO-239/PL-259 connector.

A friend of mine and I have both used the Antenex MBCN mated with an Antenna Specialists MON752 antenna (right picture below) with excellent results. The MON752 was sold as a trunk mount antenna and was a newer-model replacement for the older/discontinued model MON-52 trunk mount antenna. All of the newer-model 700 series Antenna Specialists scanner antennas (MON731, MON751 and MON752) were discontinued by Antenna Specialists in October 2005 after they had been bought out by PCTEL.

Antenna Specialists 2001 Scanner Antennas

.....I am looking for either the trunk mount or magneet mount MON-53(or a number similar to that).....

For those looking for Antenna Specialists scanner antennas I've compiled a list of the various older models with accompanying pictures. I got my information from the Antenna Specialists 2001 catalog.

MONR31 Base Station (picture 1 from left): "Brings in more stations from 25-800 MHz. Increases scanner reception by as much as 100%. Requires coaxial cable with UHF male (PL-259) to complete installation."

MONR33 Roof Mount (picture 2 from left): "All band (25-50, 130-174 and 450-512 MHz) roof/deck mounting base for permanent installation. Requires 3/8" hole. 17' cable."

MONR51 Magnet Mount (picture 3 from left): "All band (25-50, 130-174 and 450-512 MHz) powerful, heavy duty magnet mount antenna. Center loaded whip. 12' cable and pin plug connector."

MON-52 Mobile Trunk Lid Mount (picture 4 from left): "All-band mobile scanner antenna with enhanced 800 MHz band performance. Exclusive A/S MICRO-CHOKE™ for pinpoint resonance at 800 MHz for maximum range monitoring. No hole, “Quick-Grip”® mount for easy installation. Includes coax cable with installed pin plug."

MON-53 Deck Mount (picture 5 from left): "Deck (flat surface) mounting base for permanent installation. Requires 3/8" hole. 17' cable. Includes exclusive MICRO-CHOKE for pin-point resonance at 800 MHz for maximum range monitoring."

What type of mobile mount would work with the MONR33, it states a 3/8 inch Hole. - Will this screw on any NMO mag-mount / lip-mount?

The later base station versions have the micro choke thingee like the MON-53 but I forget the model #.

Any of the Antenna Specialists MON or MONR scanner antennas will screw on to any standard NMO mount (mobile magnet mount, mobile trunk lid mount or base station ground plane mount).

I know this is an old thread, but it seems that the "magic" with the old A/S MON-Series antennas is in either the length of the upper & lower metal rods, the inductance of the molded coils, or both.

Assuming that it's the inductance of the coils, would it be possible to clip the leads of an inductance meter immediately above & below this coil, measure it and then manually wind one that matches it? You could then basically make your own MON-Series antenna by adding metal elements to both ends then "potting" the coil in epoxy. Sounds like a lot of work, but someone with access to machinery could clone one of these vintage beauties.

If it is NOT the coil but more a function of the extra-long metal elements used on this series, what about clipping the metal rods on, say, the Austin Spectra and replacing them with longer elements that match a MON-53? You could use those metal couplers with hex key locks to install & affix the new elements.

The former admittedly sounds like a lot of work, but the latter seems more feasible as you would only need access to a hacksaw.
