I'd bet that a big percentage of folks have upgraded...
(The stock antennas are, in most cases not the best...)

The REM-842B is a fairly good one.
But, keep in mind that any antenna not optimized to a certain frequency band is still a compromise.
For instance: if you mostly listen to 800MHz, an 800MHZ antenna will certainly work better.

I have a Tram 1410 Discone up about 20' or so. I purchased an OmniX as an upgrade about a month ago with high expectations, based on reviews posted here. I must say, I noticed slightly degraded performance, so I put the discone back up for now. Either one is a tremendous upgrade to the stock antennas, however.

Using a Stridsberg 4 port MC to a BCD536HP, 2 BCD996P2 and various SDRs for experimenting.

I just ordered a REM-830B for my SDS200 and eagerly await its arrival. I'm hoping to see an improvement over the stock whip antenna, especially in the 700-800 range.

I'm also considering a SRH77CA for my BC346XT. In my experience, the stock rubber duck's performance is rather poor on VHF. The SDS200s whip antenna actually does better on VHF than the rubber duck. Maybe I should just use that instead?
