• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I live in Henderson Ky which is in the process of upgrading to a Motorola 700mhz phase 2 trunking system. I have seen these poles going up all over town and was not sure if they might be part of the antenna system or if they are storm sirens. Does anyone recognize this type of pole? Thanks.

That's what they look like. Is there a small Quarter wave antenna 3" long, or a longer one with a coil on the top of the large box in the middle of the pole? We have several here in my area, but on Vhf high. 73, n9zas

That may be cellular.
I've got a corridor I drive through to/from work that's a few miles long with hills close in on either side. Cellular coverage was non-existent.
Verizon started installing those on top of existing utility poles.
The middle box is the cellular RRU, remote radio unit.
The lower box is often an Alpha Technolgoies Cellect (or similar) power unit. It takes utility power, converts it to 48 volts DC powers the RRU and float charges the batteries.
Feedline (usually heliax) runs up to the can antenna on the top of the pole.

Might be 700 MHz public safety, but they usually like larger coverage areas, systems like this mounted on a 30 foot pole wouldn't be as useful. They'd also have more equipment if it was a P25 system.
I'd be surprised if it was a FirstNet style LTE system.

Thanks for the info. These are popping up all over town and some are close to current storm sirens so I really didn't think they were related. I talked to a dispatcher today that I know very well and she said the new 700 mhz public service system is a go. I was not sure if these were some type of remote location antenna for it or not.
