Hi,

Couldn't find the appropriate Forum, that works, for this.
Please re-post for me if a problem, with my apologies.

Re the Antennacraft/Scantenna ST-2:

Is it omni in optimum receiving directions, or
should it be pointed to stations of most internet ?

In not omni directional, which is the most sensitive direction/axis ?

Thanks,
Bob

For the most part it's commonly used as omni directional. I think Bob Grove performed some test and found it to be slightly directional but not enough to worry about.

I found a reference to the Scantenna being slightly directional in the "Ask Bob" column located on page 22 of the July 2006 issue of Monitoring Times magazine. This is an exact quote of what Bob Grove, W8JHD, had to say:

"If the Scantenna could be suspended in free space (or above the mast) it, too, would be non-directional in response, but it sits alongside the metal mast, so there is some reflectivity from that mast which results in minor directivity."

The design are not symetrical at VHF and will favor signals from certain directions. If you ever have used a rabbit antenna for a TV you'll know that you have to turn it to get the best picture. It will go from a snowy picture to less snowy. It's the same type of antenna design that also Omni-X share. But it is probably more deviation in signal strength from one day to the next depending of the weather than what those X or V type antennas have from different directions. UHF band use vertical dipoles so that should not be directional if it's far enough from the mast pole.
