antron 99 with or without ground plane?

I have the antron 99 with the ground plane. I have not installed the ground plain yet
How will adding the ground plain affect performance transmitting or receiving?
I only ask as I don't want to get up there to put them on lol...

On an antron i hear that ground plain is just a gimmik. didn't have one on mine and it preformed just fine.

Short answer: Does little to nothing.

Long answer: read the last post in the thread antron 99 ground plane kit Anecdotal, to be sure, but it does describe a real-world test.

I have a 99 in use for over 15 years without the groud plane kit and have had no problems in both the CB and the 10 meter ham bands.

Waste of money

The A-99 GPK can help a little with TVI. Other than that nothing short of taking your money.

Makes little difference. However I have found that by adding a few 9 foot wire radials to the base of the antenna, you will see some increase in performance.

Years ago, theory was (plausible or not) the GPK was recommended for antenna installations more than a wavelength above terrain; and unnecessary for installations a wavelength or less in height. The advertised intention was the GPK would lower the angle of radiation.

From a practical standpoint, I'm lining up with those who contend the GPK makes no difference in antenna performance. I had an Anttron99 at about 70 feet or so above terrain, lost one of the radials in a windstorm, and it made absolutely no difference in performance.

For the belt and suspenders type of person, use a GPK because I can testify that it doesn't hurt performance.

Ill bet that's hard on da feets trying to climb it. good pic anyhow and you are right about the money making radial kit. not needed.LOL
