• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I figure since the 8000/XE has been out since 2015ish that there’s probably hardly any APX7000’s still in service since they’ve probably all moved to the 8000 or the 6000BN models.

Just asking because I’ve seen a ton of them appearing on eBay as of recently / the last few months or so.

For the most part I’m pretty sure our AZ DPS still uses the APX7000’s ( UHF / 800mhz ) unless they to are switching over to the 8000’s as well soon who knows.

The APX 7000/7500 series is still supported by MSI, and there are many of them still in service. You might be surprised by just how many are still in operation out there. I'm personally aware of ~800 in service in a relatively small NY county operating on the countywide P25 system, so you can bet that there are likely tens of thousands of them still in service nationwide and beyond.

One department near me switched to APX7000 after dumping their low band about 2ish years ago. A bunch of departments still use them mainly because the radios work. And when they break in a few years, that's when the APX8000 will come into play

2 of my assigned portables are APX7000--- one UHFR2/7/800, other VHF/UHFR1 use the 7/8 APX7000 in the summer time as I can turn the darn thing only part way up and its louder than my 6000 and 8000....6000 at full tilt won't be as loud as the 7000's at half tilt on the volume. And several work vehicles have APX7500 VHF/7/800 mobiles in them.....

Good radios. until they break and can't be fixed by Moto.... they stay in service.

The P25 network I administer is still using XTS1500/2500's, APX4000/7000 and 8000 handhelds. As another poster stated, if it is not broke, don't fix it. Many smaller departments, and the corporation I work for that just happens to have fire stations, do not get grant money thrown at them very often. I know of some rural fire departments still using analog VHF Motorola HT-750's, which amazes me every time I see it.

Wow ! An FD that still uses HT750’s that’s crazy.

It’s interesting to hear all these places that still use the 7000 ( and from the sounds of it the XTS5000 / 2500 is even still kicking around in some departments ).

Our FD still use HT750s and some HT1250s because we use low band. EMS used to have HT1250s until I upgraded them to 3500e's
Like most state above, departments don't want to spend the money on equipment that isn't broken and doesn't need fixing or replacing.

The Professional series HT750/HT1250/CDM/EX/PR was discontinued end of 2015. They aren't that crusty, especially if agencies bought spares to throw in the closet

Just a few years ago I bought a EX560XLS new in the box at auction. I think that was there longest run of a modern radio? 1998-2015- 17 years!!. I'm going to guess lowband was a decent seller for fire depts. I have MT1000s were the last runs dates of 1998, before moving on to HT750/1250s. I think the MT500 ran from 77-87/88 when MT1000s came out

PDs are 7000s upgrading to 6000s, fire/ems ran xts1500s for a decade and now replacing with APX4000s

nothing crazy about that at all, majority of the county here still has HT750 and 1250.

In NC VIPER will require a TDMA radio on the system by 2025. APX and a few others have been approved for system use to meet compliance issues with phase II needs
