• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Any channel plan for FM?

Four Wheelers on 4, Super Bowl on 6, truckers on 17-19, SSB on 38. Have we come to a consensus on FM? Where should one monitor to find FM users?

If you don’t mind running beyond the legal 40 check out 26.805 (Band C CH23 on most export radios) on FM when DX is rolling. It's basically the "unofficial" US FM calling channel. Otherwise i have a lot of fun on the UK 40 when mother nature cooperates. Their Channel 19 (27.78125) is referred to as the Muppet Channel, and can be fun if you want a good laugh.

I drove all the way across Los Angeles County today. I decided to scan all 40 channels on the CB just for giggles. Basically heard no local traffic at all. All I got was some guy in Georgia that apparently likes to read his mail.

I had kind of hoped that FM might spark some interest in the old CB again, but that doesn’t appear to be happening. Oh well, there’s always 40 meters.

Thanks gentlemen!

You probably would have had better luck yesterday when people were traveling to be with family. Today everyone was probably in a tryptophan coma, or were too stuffed to fit behind their steering wheel or waddle to the radio room.

I don’t think FM will ever catch on for 11 meter. It’s been available on export radios for decades and wasn't even really used then. It became “legal” much too late in the game. If FM would have been legalized 40-ish years ago and was standard on 40 channel Cobra/Uniden/Midland radios things might be different.

There you go. It nests up against the gentleman's agreement on Channels 36-40 being for SSB. You're away from Channel 9 and 19 (as if Channel 9 mattered anymore) and you're away from the majority of AM rag chewing you'll still find on a local level. It's not perfect but it's a start. You can add or move things as necessary if FM CB gains any real popularity.

Yes, I just made this up, but it's as good as anything you'll find. Feel free to run with it. I haven't trademarked it yet.

All this is contingent on everyone being a gentleman. In my experience its probably not going to go well.

Works for me. If only they had done this circa 1976-77, when the band was expanded to 40 channels. FM should have been authorized by the FCC and mandated on the new 40 channel radios. With millions upgrading to new radios, FM might have gained acceptance.
