First, I am not a home theater nut. With that out of the way...

I am looking for a receiver to power an existing set of 5.1 surround speakers, plus a separate zone for 2 outdoor patio speakers. This Onkyo got pretty good reviews on Amazon, as long as you know and understand the HDMI passthru issue (not an issue for me).

Anyone have this receiver? Low $200's is about all I want to spend.

I do not have that one

but, I just got the Onkyo 606 in the mail today for the HD audio

its nice

Probably alittle more than you want to spend, I got it on sale from crutchfield for $450

it has that Zone 2 that you speak of.

Onkyo is Highquality gear, a part I needed on my other Onkyo died yesterday,(had it for 7 years) SO I finally upgraded to 606. If you can swing the bucks. So far, The 606 is Fabulous

You might like this site: Blu-ray.com - Blu-ray Movies, Players, Recorders, Media and Software they have a recever section there in there forums, and some of the guys there spent most of the good afternoon helping me setup my 606 properly.

Very knowladgable and helpful people on that site

SO far, Onkyo well be the only brand reciever I well ever own

Onkyo is a great unit. You may take a look at Denon AVR's also. They have some priced around the same with zone 2 option.

I've had the TX-SR506 installed for almost a week and it sounds great! The 75W out is more than enough to fill the entire 1st (and 2nd) floor with sound, and the surround decoding and DSP seems really good.

The receiver comes with a mic used for calibrating the receiver. Our left surround speaker is partially obscured by a piano. After calibration, the left surround really jumps out as if it wasn't obscured at all.

Nice unit!
