• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have the Anytone D878UV DMR HT. I've updated the firmware a number of times since I bought it. I've also performed many changes with the CPS.
Recently, after a v1.23 firmware update, the CPS would no longer read or write data to the HT. I reset the HT then went back to v1.22. Still no luck reading with the CPS. Tried v1.23 again, still no CPS read/write to the HT. The firmware changes take perfectly each time.
I don't know what else to try. Any thoughts?

Firmware read/write requires selecting the correct com port, but I can’t see the CPS using a different # than the firmware utility. On that note I have always had to firmware update not from inside the CPS, but starting the utility manually. Also the CPS never remembers the com port number and I always have to select it. Any chance yours is working differently and figuring out if a new com port number is needed?
Good Luck,
Mike

My CPS does hold the com port as long as I don't close that program. Fortunately, the com port never does change.
I have had no issues updating the firmware from within the CPS.

You may try removing the antenna, setting the channel to a simplex frequency, and try again. Different radio, but I have to do that with a TYT MD380 that I have.

What exactly is the error? Band Error is fixable using AT_options.

Bridgecomm took firmware 1.22 off their site saying it had too many problems.

Do you have the correct CPS to use with firmware 1.23?

NEVER in a MicroSoft world is subject to their reality. People have reported com port numbers changing after an update. Worth double checking and details of how it fails to read/write like Hit_Factor asked could help shed light on the issue.

I must just be lucky then. My Win10 COM ports don't change after a shutdown, update, etc. They are very static. I use seven COM ports for my radio gear. I check each and every time expecting a change.

Went back to v1.21 then to v1.23. See screenshot for error messages. Same results every time.

Completely uninstall all versions of the CPS, then do a fresh install. That error probably means a version conflict between multiple installs. Another possibility is another program is tying up the serial port. I have to shut down Cura (3D printer slicer program) or I have trouble with every other program that needs serial access.

I think you misunderstood what he is saying. It is not that the COM ports change in Windows, it is that they very frequently change in the Anytone CPS itself, i.e. it doesn't save on the previously used port when you start CPS. I have to change mine every single time I start it.

I know you say there is no com port issue in the screen shot, but the error indicates otherwise. The radio and CPS are not connecting via the com port interface operating in the background. Always in my opinion somewhat challenging issue to find, fix and keep fixed. Any updates by MS or 3rd party programs especially protection software?
Good Luck!
