I was wondering if anyone has any experience or feedback on this antenna: http://www.grove-ent.com/LA380.html. I was thinking of purchasing one for shortwave listening since I live in an apartment and have limited space for antenna set-ups. I was hoping it would work well for sw and not just amplify the noise. Also if anyone knows of a cheaper active antenna that works well in this band please let me know.

I have no experience with the AOR antenna (don't have that kind of money :) ) but I have and am still using the MFJ-1020C from http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/sw_ant/1413.html . It works well as an active antenna with the supplied whip and can also function as an antenna preselector if you should get to where you can set up an outdoor antenna. I'm using it as a preselector now but was quite pleased with its performance in terms of increased sensitivity without excessive noise when I was using it indoors as an an antenna. It's also a heck of a lot cheaper than the AOR.

My 2003 Pasport to World Band rated the old model (LA-350) **3/4 out of 5 *
I am expecting my 07 Passport to arrive any day now, if the LA-380 is rated I will post rating.

I have the Sony AN-LP1, I think it works great, Passport also rated the Sony AN-LP1 **3/4 also but it is over 200 dollars cheaper. Unfortunately it sounds like Sony may have gotten out of the SW market.

On Universal's Web site, the AN-LP1 is discontinued.

I did a google search and found this site:
