Police search for EMS poser

HOUSTON -- Houston police are looking for a 25-year-old man who allegedly decked out his car to look like an emergency vehicle.

Weylin Dawson Spradley already has a conviction for impersonating a public servant. Now police think he's driving around in a 2003 White Chevrolet Impala adorned with stripes, emblems and the words "South Ridge Emergency Services.'' Police say the vehicle does not have emergency lights.

Spradley allegedly brought the car to a southwest Houston automobile-graphics shop in November to have the work done. Workers said he was wearing a uniform and they believed the body work was being done for a legitimate agency.

But the shop contacted authorities when a check from Spradley bounced.

Houston Police Sergeant Brian Carr says a doctored vehicle could get through security lines or into restricted property. He says offenders sometimes impersonate officers to pull people over for robberies or assault.

But so far, police haven't gotten reports of Spradley pulling over motorists for criminal purposes.
