Hello,

I was looking into a a scanner and it has APCO-P25 capabilities but there is no card installed. Two things:

1) Is installing a card like installing say... a SD card? or a SIM card on a cell phone?

2) If so, where would I be able to buy a card and generally how much are they?

Thanks for the help!!

If the scanner you're talking about is a Uniden BC-250 or a BC-785, you're probably better off buying a newer scanner. The 250 and 785, even after being equipped with the digital card, do not support Project 25 trunking (only Motorola and EDACS), and they're just a little on the old side. I don't know how much the cards cost, if they are sold anymore--a brief search at scannermaster produced no results.

I would suggest looking for a BC-796 or 296, or a Radioshack PRO-96 or 2096. These are newer, but still reasonably priced on the used market (under $350).

I have the BC785D and it is a very good scanner, i got mine for 300 with the card, i dont care about trunking, I got my frequencies from Radio Reference, and from the local Radio Service that maintains the radios for Law Enforcement, and Ems, etc in my area, I hear everything I want to hear, and I have a bigger list if I want to hear more, most counties in my state use the same 800mgz frequencies so trunking I dont care about, I have all the Patching frequencies which are the most important to me, my average listening distance i can hear if I want is 270 miles, I live in Bemidji MN, and if I want I can hear all the way to I-90 which runs thru Albert lea down on the Border of Iowa and MN, but thats usually if they patch certain frequencies during major emergencies, like car chases etc....The scanner is 300 and the card is 250-300 depending on where ya buy it, if ya need help or need links let me know.
