Can anyone tell me if Indiana is APCO PHASE 2? I have a Uniden HomePatrol 1 and also will I be able to monitor using the HomePatrol 1 or will I have to upgrade to the HomePatrol II? Just moving into Indiana and was wanting to start to monitor right away. Does anyone know a way to upgrade the Uniden HomePatrol 1 to APCO PHASE 2?

Currently there is only one system under construction that will use P25 Phase 2 up in NW IN.. The SAFE-T P25 upgrade will use Phase 1, until 2020, then they will add Phase 2. As for upgrading the HP1, not happening. You would need the HP2, BCD436/536HP, BCD325P2, BCD996P2, WS1080, WS1095, PSR-800 if you wish to monitor Phase 2. Those are the current crop of scanners that can do that.

As long as your not going to be listening to any P25 Simulcast Systems. The HP1 sucks like an Hoover in LSM's. Which County are you moving to?

You should be ok in Wayne county. There's no simulcast system over there. most of the county & cities were still on vhf when I used to live there(10 years ago), not sure what the primary system is, now. Probably SafeT.

Wayne County is using SAFE-T. As is Richmond. County Fire has 2 FG's on the SAFE-T and then FG 3 and 4 are conventional.

Sites for Wayne Co. -
Dalton, Richmond, are the in county sites, where you will hear most of the traffic. You also want to monitor the surrounding sites.

Officialy the cutover for us in Phase 3 is November. So you have some time to get ready for P25. Phase 1 is about to come online in the next couple of weeks unless there are delays. http://www.in.gov/ipsc/2839.htm

I don;t think we will see phase 2 in 2020 if phase one deployment is an indication. Been postponed few times now and most of the radios in the state won't even be compatible. Seeing allot of radios that aren't P25 phase one compatible now.

IPSC is going to begin TDMA testing by 2018/2019, and roll out 2020. There are an lot of APX's out there now. The system will support both FDMA, and TDMA once the rollout begins. Everyone won't be TDMA, only those that have the need. Only larger agencies with a lot of TG's etc will really need it. It is the best way to use bandspace and add more users also. As that is still 4 years or so off, no need to fret yet.
