• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just got my hands on an 8000 for the first time and was asked to add a local PD tac channel from a different zone to the scan list.
I got the user guide and found the page where it says to scroll left or right to ScanL.
I don't see it, my 3 screens only have zone choices, keys set, etc.

Based on this I'm assuming scan was not allowed in the code plug but wanted to make sure I'm not missing something.

ScnL must be added to the menu options. Doesn't necessarily mean that scan is not allowed in the codeplug. Even if ScnL is in the menu, that particular scan list must allow operator selected scan list members in order to add/delete channels.

Is there a side button set to turn on scan? If so press and hold it. The list must be set to operator select.

It's there now, don't know what I did differently with the 2nd radio I picked up.
I was told there is no scan priority between zones. We want to scan a UHF channel in one and a VHF in another (both conventional) with priority on the selected channel, is that possible? My searching here didn't find that.

Your best bet is to open the codeplug with cps and set your scanlists, and once in there you can set your priorities for each channel.

Do you want to scan a UHF Channel and a particular VHF channel in the same Scan List?

Under the Scan List Options:

Select your Zone and Channel within that Zone for each channel you want to scan.

Scan List Set-Up
Under "Priority Assignment"
Priority 1 Type - Fixed
Priority Member 1 - [your vhf or uhf channel]

Repeat for Priority 2 like you did for Priority 1

Personality Set-Up
Under your Conventional Personality drop down, if you just have one, you can follow along for this for if you have multiple personalities.

Select your Personality (of your choosing)
Scroll Down to "Features"
Select your Scan list that you just created (see above)
Make sure you have a menu item or a button assigned to "Scan"

Now you can set up two different scan lists for two different personalities, or the same scan list for all personalities, but you will need to set which scan list is tied to which personality you choose. Let me know if you have anymore questions, happy to help.

I don't have access to CPS, it's a federal radio with encryption keys stored on the dark side of the moon.
Thanks for the responses.

After lugging the radio around for a hot afternoon in the DC humidity I see that the '8000' part of the model ID is not the price but weight in grams.
