• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

When I use P25 conv , I can't hear ptt tone in encryption mode.
But same as the P25 conv , I can open the TX clear tone.
What should I do in CPS.

Thanks.

By default, the PTT tone is there to alert you that your transmission is NOT encrypted, so you don't reveal sensitive information.
In encrypted mode, the tone isn't there by design.

I'm not well versed in the APX CPS but that's how Motorola has done it for a long, long time.

Look for a talk permit tone option.

You won't have a PTT tone in P25 conventional unless you have "TX clear alert tone" turned on, which is just that. It alerts you that you are transmitting "in the clear" you won't have a tone when transmitting while encrypted.

I wish Motorola had a different alert tone for secure tx, rather than simply no tone at all. I use a clear tx alert tone to let me know that I have keyed the radio and that the transmission has begun in conventional. When I am using a secure channel, sometimes I find myself waiting for the beep and realizing "oh crap... there won't be a beep bc I am in secure!" It would be nice if secure users could get some sort of audible feedback in conventional.

Motorola radios technically never had a Go-ahead tone on conventional Astro.. no need for it as signaling is embedded and no need to wait for the identification packet to as with the case of pre-ptt mdc1200. the only brands of radios i know for a fact can be programmed with a go-ahead tone on conventional systems is Harris (same talk permit beep as trunking since the GE days). JVCKENWOOD/EFJOHNSON also has a conventional go ahead tone. and i believe icom can also be programmed with double rapid beep on conventional.
