• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I know that this has been discussed here but I have not seen any concrete answers. I am looking for anyone who has successfully implemented GPS mapping )when a radio is transmitting) for dispatchers in a non-trunked system.

Portables and Mobiles report position properly to each other, but need to find a viable solution for this to be shown to a dispatcher (either at the MCC positions or via a separate solution) Have been working with Motorola for some time now and they have not been able to come up with any solution. I am curious if there has been any third party success (or perhaps success through Motorola and maybe we just have the wrong engineers).

I’m still baffled that this is so difficult to resolve but I do understand that trunked systems are probably more common for Motorola to deal with in this regard.

Lots of CAD systems offer this. Nextgen, Spllman, Intergraph, and many more. Motorola owns Spillman and also has their own new CAD that does it.
One of our local PDs just put this into operation, The Motorola P25 conventional system gets the location from the portables and hands off the data to the CAD and it displays it on a map.
You have to have the correct features in the radios and the P25 system, but its done on P25 conventional every day
The local Motorola Shop set up the whole thing, So I'm thinking your vendor is just clueless

Funny story is that we have tried both local and Motorola Corporate and both have basically said we don’t think this can work, sorry. They tried shoehorning us into APXNEXT’s gps solution but it only supports LTE so at that point I think they gave up. We certainly have the correct features in our radios and it’s all working great on that end. Also would be more than willing to upgrade whatever we need in our core, just need someone who knows what they are doing, LOL.

Unfortunately we aren’t interested in any CAD changes but Tech21’s suggestion may be viable. If there is a way to only use part of the CAD system then that may work... What PD is it if you don’t mind? I may reach out. Just annoying that Compasscom is a Motorola Partner and they did’t even attempt to send us that way...so I’m sure there are plenty of options.

Try compasscom. That is who we use and they also wrote an api for our mapping software for cad. This works on our APX subscribers with a donor radio and our own server...No K core needed

We work with MSI on many projects including GPS from both the MOTOTRBO and Wave PTX sides, as well as a number of App based solutions. But while we are licensed for it we have not done anything in the Astro line to date. While they are a competitor I have also heard positive things about CompassCom as it pertains to Astro projects.

I know once you have the data you are 90% there, we pass it off to Esri through GeoEvent and are waiting on a go to pass it through the new Velocity (Cloud) gateway as well for many different projects. (Think Rest/Json). You can also put it on google maps or just hand it to a CAD via any number of interfaces or database tools.

PM with your contact information and Agency if you would like to talk.

PS: NO clue who you were put in touch with at Motorola, but it was the wrong people.
