• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can the APX Next 700 mhz newly designed and more flexible antenna be used on the APX-900 radio?

My experience with Next series antennas has been that the plastic is slightly larger in diameter than the APX antennas and they do not screw down well. YMMV

Probably not:

762-870 MHz, 5.9 inches
Compatible with APX N70, N50, N30
12 month warranty

I also found this:

Will the new antennas in APX NEXT (stubby single-band and flexible all-band) work with other APX family radios such as the APX 8000 and APX 6000?

No. The current APX antennas have the GPS hardware embedded. The APX NEXT antennas do not have GPS hardware because the hardware is located in the radio itself. This means that APX NEXT antennas cannot be used with other models of APX radios.

But what if you never use, or plan to use GPS? On some of my APX radios I use older non GPS antennas because I never use GPS, & leave it turned off.

OP are you talking about N series or NEXT? Because they use two separate antenna connectors. The antenna you speak of is for the N series and will not work on anything other than N series.

The APX6000 stubby however will fit on the NEXT but not at all on the N series as the connector was redesigned.

The N50/70 antennas appear to be 2ng Gen+ TRBO antennas.

I have been using the UHF looking APX NEXT stubby 7/800 antenna for several years on an APX6000. Has the same RX and punch as a standard stubby spike, but doesn't get bent over and you can tug the radio out of the holster by the antenna Heh.
