• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am newer to programing my departments radios. We have access to multiple trunked systems, the first system gave us the system key. No problem there. We are gaining access to a second system and are working on getting the second system programed in some of our new radios. The radios were sent to a local radio shop to put in the VHF and second trunked system. Will I be able to add the first trunked system without the second systems key? I was told the second system will not give us a key. I know the way I wrote this is a little confusing and am sorry about that. any other questions to clarify this let me know.

As long as the 2nd systems key doesn't Write Protect the radio, yes you will be able to modify the conventional frequencies and the 1st system with the required ASK. You need to confirm this before they program any radios!

Personally, and managing systems from 2001 to last year, they (the second system) should not be holding your subscriber's hostage. They can set the parameters on the ASK to restrict what you can and cannot do. If they don't know how to do this then they need to find someone who does, to include putting both systems on your current ASK. You do not need separate USB dongles. I would program ASK's with up to 10 individual systems for my technicians, self-supporting users, and Motorola.

Will only be able to make changes to the System you have a key to the 1st System.
You will have to have the 2nd System Radio Shop do all programming to all radios for the 2nd System.
I do not intend to modify the second system. We have a conventional system and 2 trunked systems we will need to work with. The ship for the Second system can not put the first system on. I want to make sure I can modify the first trunk system and my conventional system before we get too far into this.

Like I said above, if this Radio Shop programs your subscribers with a Write Protected ASK they can lock you out from being able to reprogram the radios without all of the keys being loaded. So YES it can happen.

So you don't ever seeing yourself having to update an EID for trunking system #2 for instances like a radio damaged beyond repair? That's a pretty bold statement.

I understand where the OP is coming from. Some sys admins will adamantly refuse to release their sys key to anyone but themselves.

Best advice is to have them program just one unit or see if you can be there and after they program it then try to read and write with your setup.

Tell them you need access to the parts on your radio and not to write protect the whole radio.

Or option 2 which I’ve also seen happen is get some single band radios just for their system and only their system.

It's bad practice to lock down someone else radio. If the agency doesn't own it, it is not under their purview to write protect the entire device. Protect their system from unauthorized changes? Sure. But locking the entire subscriber down is just not necessary.
Unfortunately there are some jackhole system managers out there that feel like if their system goes in someone else's radio, they have the right to write protect it. One suck jackhole around here even passwords radios bought and owned by other agencies than his own.
