To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Two questions in one post here...
First- Is there a way to enable/disable channel announcement features on the 4000 akin to TRBO radios?

Second- Most of us know the audio on the 4000 doesn't compare to the 6000 and above, I have heard talk about a few tweaks to the RX audio in CPS that greatly improve the 4000, anyone have any direction on this?

Yes, channel announcement is in CPS in the Zone Channel Assignment.

I haven't noticed any difference in RX audio between 4000s and 8000s, can you elaborate on this?

I think he may be getting at that the sound is generally not as loud due to a smaller speaker, but tweaks can be made in CPS to make it sound better. I am also interested in finding out the right settings

I want to be able to enable and disable the voice announcements via a button or menu item. And the 4000’s audio sounds like child’s play in comparison to the 6 or 8k

Did you add a Mute option to the menu, and change the Enhanced Mute Tones Operation to VA Tones?

I wish there was an option in CPS to only play voice announcements on a button press and not when changing the zone/channel.

Yeah, if you set the mute function to VA Tones, it renders a Channel Announcement button useless...just boops at you. I also wish that the mute feature had a setting for Keypad Tones + VA Tones so that you could silence both of them without disabling all tones in the radio like the TPT.
