• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

the one that is VHF/UHF concerns me greatly, it has firmware 4.00.25 as original FW. this was JUST released 8/12/10! i'm wondering if these are not walking out the back door of a Moto warehouse or some government agency somewhere.

i know about the FW release date as it came out just as i started programming a bunch of 7500's. i had to update all of them as the major issue with prior 4.00.xx FW was not switching between type II systems but showing that it did on the display.

That guy always has a few radios each month like that, and always without warranty and seem to be the latest and greatest

hahah I love the line he put about returns "There will be no returns or refunds on this electronic equiptment due to people trying to substitute parts."

yeah how can a 2 week old radio be out of warranty already? he does not want someone to turn him in to Motorola, because he knows the unit is stolen. my shop does not run serial numbers to Moto, but you can bet if a 11,000.00 radio came in we would make a call or two if we had any suspicions.

also he mentions it is FPP but makes no mention of the dongle. you have to have the dongle on it to make changes via FPP. wonder if he includes it with them or not?

Did you ever think that you aren't the only person on the planet who is able to perform firmware upgrades?

that is a factory FW sticker, not a field FW upgrade.

EDIT: i KNOW what dealer cost is on these units and even if he ordered 5000 of them he would be losing money at his buy it now price.

My knowledge of the capabilities of this radio are limited. What makes them worth over $6000?

Not to go all political here but if Government agencies are really spending over $6000 per radio it is no wonder we are in such bad shape. We cannot keep doing this. Political rant off.

the capabilities make it worth more. the fact it has a set of batwings automatically adds 30%!

$11000, ARE YOU FREAKIN SERIOUS?

Davidgcet, It would seem you work within the commercial radio industry. Could you give a brief overview of the capabilties of this radio?

Did that already. Read quite a bit and even watched a couple videos.

So the radio has some innovative features, but $11000 worth? Maybe I am just not realizing the significance of some of its capabilities. Does ruggedizing add significant cost? A speaker and mic on either side cannot cost that much more can it? Is it the software cost?

They are not. My agency is purchasing fully equipped 700/800/VHF portable at around $6K with a very decent flash. Take off $1500 and you will have a nicely equipped 700/800MHz portable, which BTW is less than a comparable equipped XTS5K.

My mistake. Not sure where I heard that or what I was confusing...
