I didn't know we had Arizona Rangers. Does anyone know anything about them?

Anyway, they just got licensed for 2 Watt ERP conventional mobiles statewide, for Narrow Band Analog, DMR Voice, and P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 on the following frequencies:

769.05625
769.06875
774.99375
799.05625
799.06875
804.99375

They are an independant, private and unpaid group that provides assistance to local and county law enforcement agencies for traffic control and similar duties, mostly at events. I have seen them directing parking traffic at airshows and fairs.

AFAIK they have no arrest or police authority beyond that of any other citizen but are able to perform traffic services at the request of the lead agency for the event.

I think the database has some VHF frequencies that I have heard them on here and there, I imagine they are obtaining some AZWINS, MCSO or other P25 system radios and wanted to have some simplex freqs for operations to be added into them.

Perhaps some of those $50 EBay XTS5000s will finally see remotely constructive use (after a ref-osc tuneup, I'd hope).

Based on the members I've seen and dealt with... after paying for programming, there isn't likely to be cash for an alignment check/tune-up. They are often over-extended on Level IV rifle plates for their armor and LED lightbars aren't cheap either. Better hope Glock doesn't release a new pistol anytime soon.

As someone who is a former Arizona Ranger, a $50 baofeng was often too expensive for someone to purchase. They always wanted the best gear “because their life depends on it” but none seem to understand the importance of a radio. It was pretty comical.

Interesting, though paper tigers are pretty common among these kind of groups so I wouldn't take that seriously until any actual observation is made on those frequencies.

I discovered them last year at the local Rodeo and other people that were there helped eyeball their gear for me. Those adventures detailed here: Andy Devine Days Rodeo (Kingman) - Potential Crossband Repeaters

Was a little trailer with a couple of analog VHF repeaters and a bunch of cheap handhelds passed around. Made for some interesting listening.

Here's a whole day's worth of traffic of theirs I captured on the last day, my TRX was on other duties at the time so I just connected a voice recorder to my WS1040. License and RF details in the description:

No worries, inexpensive with Glock Blue

AZ Rangers should persue being on WINS OR PTT FirstNet. They have no repeaters to rely on.
WINS with Next would cost far more than using FirstNet PTT app.

Members can buy Tri Band Harris under $1,000

Being a member costs $$ buying required uniform accessories.

They cringe at buying a $25 baofeng so I doubt they’d even consider a Harris radio
