Checkout "www.actionradio.com" (in Maple Grove) for a digital scanner or any Radio Shcak store. Action Radio is local, carries the Uniden (Bearcat) line, but the price is higher than getting one the net.

If you want to keep it in the vechicle, look into getting an Amatuer Radio license or you can apply to the MN BCA for an Individual Mobile Monitor Permit - checkout "http://www.dps.state.mn.us/bca/Invest/Documents/Page-02-003.html" for details on the BCA permit and the exception for Amatuer Radio license holders.

Thank you for the site.

Do you have any area frequencies plymouth, minnetonka, mound, eden prarie.etc.. that differ from what may be published? Also do you know a good site for mn freuencies thats updated?

I saw that MN BCA on the net and i "fovorited" it. I understand the hi-ranking, or sargent needs to approve it? basically I contact them with the mn bca and they just give me a paper or..... do i have to have some kind of news affiliation?

I just use the frequencies found on this web site and www.scanfan.com.

For the BCA Indivual Mobile Monitoring Permit, you must get written permission, on agency letterhead, for each and every frequency you wish to monitor for that agency. You must do that for each law enforcement agency you wish to monitor. Once you have all of that, you must fill out the BCA form (downloadable from the BCA website), attach your permissions from the agencies, and then submit all of it to the Bureau.

I do not know how the BCA/law enforcement agencies would handle the 800 mhz trunked system. Plymouth PD is dispatched by Hennepin county. So if you get permission from Hennepin, is that good enough for Plymouth?

You may want to give Tim O'Malley, BCA Assistant Superintendent, a phone call at 651.793.1000. Tim may not know the answer, but he can direct you to someone that can help.

I not pushing the Amatuer Radio license, but as you may see, it might be more easy.

the name does ring a bell.

I'm buying a bcd396t
It may be esier to just get the ham license but does that allow a scanner in the car?
does that actually allow a scanner-specifically in the car?

The "ham" license allows you to have a scanner in any vehicle within the state of Minnesota (and others) as long as you have a copy of your license with you.

BTW, it looks like you are going with the newest toy - hope you have fun :)
