(Just sent this to Scan-DC...)
There's a front-page article in today's Post about how the console radios in Metro's new rail cars are not able to be used. Sounds like the new rail cars come with the Motorola 490 MHz system radios installed, as opposed to the current VHF frequencies. Because the 490 MHz system is not completely functional yet, those new radios in the rail cars are not useable. The article mentions how the operators of these new rail cars are supposed to carry around one (or two) handheld radios to maintain communications. Obviously, these handhelds must be for communications on the VHF system.
