• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Are these multi-net radios capable of doing Smartzone and P25 trunking? Everything I'm seeing says yes, but do the options come baked into the radio or do they need to be turned on in some form?

Options are determined by what you pay for. Kinda like a flash code on a Motorola. There's a way around having to pay for upgrades but it's kind of hit or miss as the option codes are based off esn. As far as I know no one has cracked the code completely but with a little time it's easy to get the options you want. Ive done dozens of them that were bought as basic radios and upgraded them for more options. It also can vary by version for things like channels supported.

My understanding is that "HA" in the model number determines some of the basic features included in the radio as it was purchased. Didn't know if someone could decode that.

Do you have the cable and software? If so just plug it up and read the options. If I can find my model decode chart I can probably give you some more info on that one. It's be a minute since I've messed efj's. That's a 51sl es correct? Worst case it's literally a 5 minute job of hex editing to turn on whatever features your want.

Don't have the radio yet, it's a prospective purchase. It's an Ascend ES. 6.16.3

Well according to the breakdown I've got its not telling me a whole lot. It says 700/800, high cap battery, 800 antenna, black shell. The "ha" is listed under the options section and it says to read from software.

If you decide to buy it and don't want to pay for any changes you can send me a PM and I'll send you the guide I wrote for hex editing the options file. Ive got one too for getting around system keys but I suspect I'll get hit with the ban hammer for posting it here.

I don't have the PCC or cables for this radio. It was going to go on a system with valid keys and such. I wasn't even going to touch the programming in it.
