I am looking for assistance or advice. A bit about my location. I live in rural area Lewisburg with nearest town being 5 miles away. I mostly listen to local police on 155Mhz analog and EMT 460Mhz analog. I also listen to some trunked Motorola 400Mhz and a P25 simulcast. Throw in a couple 120Mhz air craft’s. My rig is a Whistler TRX-2 and a Radio Shack PRO94. I currently have a Tram 1410 mounted approx 30 feet from the ground.
My house is a 2 story. A little over a ¼ miles west is 2 sets of HIGH tension Power distribution Lines. 15 feet from the west end of my house is the power lines supplying power to my house and 3 others running north. These power lines are connected to the feed lines which run on the south side of my house and travel east and west. So the west end of my house is out of play for antennas. At the east end and north is my garage which has a metal roof. On the east end of my house is a porch which mounted on the roof of it is a Split unit a/c unit which is a dc inverter unit to boot.
I currently have a Tram 1410 mounted on a steel pole on the east end of my house about 3o feet in the air and about 115 feet above the split ac unit and about 8 feet from the metal garage roof. Before I make anything permanent can anyone assist me. I know I am getting noise from the split unit and the metal roof I am thinking might be affecting signals. I have no other places to mount a antenna. What can I do to remove the power line noises? If I would go with a different antenna would that help with the metal roof? I was possibly thinking of the Larsen NMO 150/450/800 And Laird MBCN. So can anyone give me some insight to helping improve the quality of the signal’s? The signal’s for the most part are strong but but choppy and and background noise. Thanks.
On the picture the red round spot is where the current antenna is located on the house. On the left side i put arrow to where the power pole is with transformer.
