• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi, I have a simple question. When CPS throws the message "Advanced System Key required"; what in the codeplug of the radio tells CPS that this ASK is required. My reasoning for asking this is so that I can remove any frequency/talkgroup that is restricted. Thanks in advance!

You can't remove it. That's why it's there. So you can't change anything. However, you can duplicate the same system in the codeplug and delete the original. But, in order to do that, you will need a system key. And those are not easily obtainable. Nor is the process allowed to be discussed in this forum.

Sir, you misunderstand my question. I have already duplicated the codeplug but am still getting the ASK required message from cps. I want to know what I need to remove from the codeplug itself that is making it say that. What channels/talkgroups do I need to remove to be only on ones that do not require an ASK

Without looking at your codeplug, it's hard to say. Have you deleted every part of the original system that existed? You have to remove it in its entirety.

You need the ASK to the radio owner system to remove the write requirement for the ASK which applies to the entire radio, not a particular personality or system.

ASK was poorly thought out because for one thing, if a radio should end up being sold on the surplus market and still has the customer's data in it, that data can't be removed without the correct ASK key.

Pretty stupid.

At the very least there needs to be an option to wipe the radio in a manner that wipes it clean without permitting you to make any edits to the codeplug.

Having a radio that basically can't be deprogrammed outside of its original programming source is STUPID.

To answer your question, the trunking system.

Each trunking system is required to have a system key. Some are normal keys and some are Advanced System Keys (ASKs). In order to make a change to a trunked system you need to have a system key. When a radio is written with an ASK it modifies the codeplug to say, "Hey, from now on I only want to be written from an ASK."

But if you want to write your radio all you need to do is go in and take out that system.

There was a utility floating around from the old Communications Support Forums that removed the ASK requirement from ASTRO25 radios. Google should be able to help you out.

It's absolutely stupid that Motorola didn't allow the ability to at least erase the ASK/ACK protected data so that radios on the used market wouldn't be junk. I know someone who bought a pile of XTLs at auction which were unusable because of ASK.
