To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just programmed up for the first time. It receives analog just fine. When I attempt to choose "DIgital CSQ" under the "Rx Unmute Rule" I get an error message. I presume this is why I am not able to receive the digital frequency.

Is this a flash code issue? I thought the flash code indicated P25 digital capability.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

astro wont receive

you may want to check to see if you actually have a digital radio, go into service and check your flash, your radio may be astro ready and actually astro or digital. if the radio is digital what version are you using?

A couple of things to check through the service mode:

1) What's the flash code of the radio
2) What's the Dsp version and firmware versions?

then,

3) Whats the error message you receive.

VSELP radios will not do Digital Squelch. I'm not even sure a VSELP radio will give you that choice.

Colby, Digital CSQ is a valid receive unmute rule for P25 radios. It's the digital equivalent of carrier squelch on analog. Great when you don't know the NAC.

If you do known the NAC, then you can use Normal Squelch.

Um, yes it is. Digital CSQ and DCS are two different things. You are thinking of Digital-Coded Squelch, a feature of most analog radios. Digital CSQ is a feature implemented on P25 radios.

According the the EFJohnson help files:
Digital Squelch - When checked, carrier squelch is enabled which results in all digital traffic, regardless of NAC or talk group ID, being received. This does not program NAC F7E which is used the same as other NAC codes.

Ah, you beat me to it, Mike... :D

Thanks for the replies. The world of /\/\ digital is new to me.

In any event, I found the following:

Model: H04SDF9PW7AN

Firmware: 03.33.00.00

DSP Software: 105.01.04

Flashcode: 800001-000000-2

Hmmmmm.............I have a funny feeling this is a analog only radio?????

Your flashcode breaks down to:
H15/H44 H15 is Astro Data / H44 is VRM500 for MCS2000 only
H35/G48 Conventional Operation

AKA it does not look good.

For an AS that is totally invalid. The first bit is totally wrong and the second one is Conventional only.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that 8 means it's a VSELP radio...

Judging by the dsp rev, it's a vselp radio.

Only p25 radios can do digital squelch.

let me guess Astro Saber II probably engraved on the front with a P and a 3-4 digit number and possibly a pd name. If its what I am thinkng its is an former DC PD radio. I have the same one and its VSLEP 512k . If someone told you it was digital they were hosing you.
