To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Anyone been able to get this working? I got the software to install and run fine, no problems what so ever, but when i try to read the radio i get Communication with Radio Failed... Etc...

The CPS is version 5.03, i put it on my workbench puter running Win2K and it worked fine, both hardware and USB serial port. Put it on Win7, both 32 bit and 64 bit systems, and i can't get it to read the radio.

Checked, double checked, and triple checked all settings, com port number, drivers, you name it. It just will NOT read a radio. However on the SAME computer running Win 7 64 bit i can read and write an MCS2000 with its CPS and a USB serial adapter, and the hardware serial port on the computer, so why not the Spectra CPS???? Any ideas??

I tried version 5.02 and 5.03, neither work, communication fails.

Hi Scott, I am not sure but I think I remember reading somewhere that
you have to run cps in xp mode on the win 7 os. Not having win 7 I do
not know exactly how to accomplish that.

I run it on a Win32 version of 7 and it works fine. I changed the installer compatibility to XP and ran as admin and it works fine.

Communication with Radio Failed. Before you say its the RIB i can read an MCS2000 and a few other CPS based radios on this same computer running Win7 64 Bit with the same RIB and cable.

I know its not the radio, because i can carry it over to the workbench and with the same RIB and cables i can read and write there just fine, the workbench computer is Win2k Pro.

Its starting to look like the Astro Spectra CPS won't run on a 64 Bit system, but the other CPS packages i have tried do. Why it also won't run on the Win 7 32 Bit system i tried i have no idea unless that computer has a problem with its serial ports, but everything seems to be working fine.

More than likely that's the case, an old software package like Astro CPS doesn't know how to work in a 64 bit system. Follow my suggestion and get VM Ware, I know that does work on Pro for CDM's and HT's which is also an older software package. Motorola is having enough problems getting Astro25 to work with 7, never mind a CPS for a no longer supported radio.

I have seen similar communication issues. sometimes you need to get the CPS fired up and running then select read or write then connect the rib and radio, or connect the radio to the cable then retry the read. sometimes its just a matter of turning on the radio once everything is running

On the MTS2000 radios its opposite you have to have everything connected and turned on then run the CPS.

try combinations of this you might hit on a sequence that works. I just tried my astrospectra w v5.03 and v 4.01.03 (same computer) with no issues. same held true for a XTS3000

I have tried every combo one could try, thanks for the idea though. It works first time every time on my old Win2K computer at the workbench but not on any of the Win7 machines i have, would be nice if it would at least work with my laptop for portable programming.

it might be something real basic maybe check the comport settings perhaps the cps is not seeing the correct comport.

Same com port number as set in the MCS2000 CPS and that works fine... Not a hardware issue or setting issue that i can find. The Astro Spectra CPS just doesn't like 7 i guess.

I couldn't get Elite Dispatch to run in Windows 7 either. Put a new PC in at the house, and the console software wouldn't run. Ended up downgrading to XP, and it's all good.

Add that to the list of non-functional software.

Thats most likely it, i know others with Ultimate that are able to use older software no problems thanks to the built in features of the Ultimate.

I am using 7 Ultimate so I'm not sure if a different lower version will have issues.

I basically set the installer file to XP compatibility and then I have to run as Admin. It installs fine.

I tried setting its run compatibilty to everything, didn't work.... I also tried it on Win 7 32 bit and 64 bit, didn't work.

64 Windows 7 is the problem

I have it install on several Windows 7 32 bit and runs fine.. Went to put it on my laptop that is 64 bit and get the same error. Seems it is a 64 bit problem.

vm ware

If you can't get it to work with XP mode you can try VM Ware. That's the only way one of my techs have been able to get Pro for CDM and HT work on his home computer.

i having probs as well tell me more on how to use this vm ware please sir.
