Hi!

Many years ago there was a frequency on 14 MHz slightly outside the ham radio band where ATC personnel had a private chat in breaks or free time. They used their professional HF ATC base stations. I had some nice conversations with them in the late 90s using my HAM radio trx from Germany.

Does anyone know or remember this?

Never knew about this. I was spinning the dials quite a lot in the 90's and frequently tuned in and around the 20 meter amateur band. It would have made for some interesting listening. (y)

I have a friend that went to the FAA training facility in Oklahoma by Tinker AFB in the late 90s. They had a ham shack where the licensed hams could use the FAA radios on the ham frequencies. He often talked to friends on 20m here in PA.
He's not aware of anyone there using anything other than assigned frequencies for FAA comms in the HF bands.
