I have been getting on-air reports about my TX audio on my TYT. The reports say the audio is either muffled or hollow, and lacks treble. I was wondering if anyone has experience with these radios, and this problem.

Will an external mic improve the tone my transmission, or is it just the radio? Does anyone know of any modifications or adjustments to improve this, either internally or through the menu. I haven't found any.

Next question, if a mic will improve the quality, what would be a good external mic? I am told this radio is compatible with Kenwood accessories.

Try a speaker mic first and see it may be the type radio you have those aren't a top of the line radio and may have a cheap made mic element,if you do not want to spend a bunch on a mic try kawa mall off ebay they have mics for 5-10 dollars it will help you see if its the audio element or just the radio itself

I know the radio is not the best, and I don't think it has a separate mic element. That is probably the problem. Are those cheap mics any good from ebay?

Press "Menu" then go to "APRO" Press "Menu" again, make sure this setting is set to "OFF" and not to "COMP". If the COMP is on then this is why it sounds muffled. Hope this helps. 73's

Review the discussion in the following forum:
Transmission1 • View topic - TYT UVF 1 dualbander

In particular, look at the references to the adjustment of "mic mod". These are internal adjustments made to the radio configuration through the dealer control software. A link to download the dealer software is available in the text of the forum...

try any modifications at your own risk !

I just tried this and it did help. I didn't use the exact figures there but tried several combos until it was better. It's still lacks treble but is much better.

How about sharing your results for everyones future reference....

Which version of the UVF1 are you using.... is this the recent USA model with the 2.5khz channel steps (7.5khz channels spacing) or is the unit the older version that still only has 6.5khz channel steps?

Which fields specifically did you modify....
Can you post the before (hopefully you read your radio before mods) and after numbers.

...thanks
