Question... Is there any difference in the audio output, (ie. watts) between the front and rear jacks on the BCD-996T or the BCT-15.

Yes, the ext spkr jack on the back is made to be used with an external speaker that can be driven by the higher power available there. The front jack is for use with headphones. It is cut back in power so as not to blow out your eardrums.

thanks for the info... i was thinking that was the case since I noticed a difference in audio level when switching an ext speaker from one jack to another. ext speaker to the rear jack it is !!!

From both Uniden manuals (BCT15 & BCD996T), Specifications section in the back:

Audio Output :
2.6W nominal into 8Ω speaker
30mW nominal into 32Ω stereo headphone

Probably rear/front, respectively.

also I think the front output is stereo, and the rear ext jack is mono ... my 2cents :)
