Icall is a system that is part of the edacs trunked radio system. It is a method of calling an individual radio and having a one to one conversation that no one else on the system can hear.

Each radio on the edacs system (actually any trunked radio system) has an individual radio id for that radio and only that radio. When an Icall is made from one radio user to another radio user. The initiating user either punches in the radio id that he wishes to call or he captures the radio id by having the person who wishes to talk to on an Icall key up for a moment which causes that radio id to show on his radio display.

Once the user has initiated the Icall, the two radio users can carry on a conversation without interuptions (well in theory at least) and it will not be heard by anyone else on the system (once again in theory).

AFD is using this, when they tone out a fire truck, they ICall that radio that is located in the station and that is how the station gets their voice dispatch. It may be also set up where it in fact also will turn on the lights, cut off power to certain items and even open bay doors. I don't know for sure how fancy aurora got when they set it up.

But that is the basic way in which Icall works and how AFD is using it to dispatch stations.

Hope that helps.

If I understand correctly about what you are asking about, you are wondering about the tones that alert what rig is being dispatched correct?

If this is what you are asking, Aurora fire has these tones 24/7 that go off in the station when that station is being dispatched for a call. During the night (after 5pm I believe), the main dispatch goes silent in the station for some peace and quiet, however when the alert is send to that station, the dispatch becomes verbal again. It is NOT set up to where the bay doors open, or the lights come on or anything, its just the tone that goes through all of the speakers in the station. Also, if you program the TG for Station Alert #2 on the RR frequency database, you will hear a "telephone" type squak, which means that an alert is being sent to any one of the 15 Aurora Stations.

The Alert Tones go as followed:

Engine Company: Low-High
Truck Company: High-Low
Battalion Chief: High-Higher (beeping)
Heavy Rescue or HazMat: High-Low (same as the truck because the truck companies out of station 2 and station 8 are trained on those specialty rigs and that truck company goes out of service when a special response is needed)

Hope this helps...

You should here all sides of AFD calls, I do. Normally enroute and onscene is Tac 2 and 3 most often.

Yes Jim I thought so too but it says go to tac 1 or 2 maybe it's as simple as I don't have id's of those tac id's, what are those id's?
