I was wondering if it is possible to patch a VOIP landline into a radio. I have problems with reliable cell coverage in my area and was wondering if this would be a path worth going down.

There is plenty of APRS infrastructure in my area. I could just as easily send a text message, but my VP8000 doesn't do APRS.

Your best bet is to use infrastructure that can support a SIP connection. I have commercial DMR repeaters that have a SIP connection. Works great and it is TG steered.

Does it support full Duplex or is it still one person talking at a time?

You can build you own RF FULL DUPLEX PHONE PATCH. It depends on how much .only you want to spend. We had a UHF System with a Zetron 48b controller and EF Johnson Full Duplex Radio in the mid 1980's.

I you're in charge of the repeater infrastructure, then you can likely achieve what you desire using the DVSwitch software suite.
