Does anybody know what the best deal and efficient scanning antenna is for aviation? For example, I live about 12 miles from Miami International Airport and have a radio shack PRO-94 scanner. I was wondering if I could get like a base antenna, like discone, and connect it to my BNC connection scanner. (PRO-94) Does anybody no a particular antenna that maybe worked out for them? And if possible reasonable in price. Thanks so much.

I use the Diamond-D777 is an excellent airband antenna and receives from 120Mhz-300Mhz and i also got 3 of the Icom-AH7000 discones are very good and you do pay more than other discones but you are getting 50 feet of good quality low loss cable from japan with 2 N type connectors.

antenna choice

The bnc is slightly recessed on the '94 and because of this I'm not sure if an RH77 wil fit. I did have a 94 and I know the shack's 20-006 whip wil go on, and it's great in VHF air. I also have 2 RH77's and the are also top quality. Austin

You should have no problem connecting an external antenna to you handheld scanner. The only issue you will face is that of overloading. An external antenna is always the best way to go if you are chasing airband.

Lino... where did you get the D777? Was it from somewhere in Australia?
