• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I had quite a few hits on BA117A between 03:18 Eastern and 05:20 Eastern on 09/06/2016. Had so many I don't think it was a bad decode. Any ideas on what it was?

Was BA117A a callsign? Was it an aircraft ID? Need some more information to help.

It was one of the Google high-altitude balloons. Mode-S code BA117A passed over southern Ontario over the weekend drifting southeast tagging up as HBAL469. What altitude reading and speed was it showing? It was about 51000' as it went through Toronto Centre airspace at about 8kts.

Here's a screen capture of it near Sudbury Ontario on Sept. 5th at 0230Z. By noon local (16Z) it was passing Rochester New York.
