Bad for them, good for us... I've been watching NASA 946 in the pattern at ED on NASA TV and also listening to them work with Sport and CapComm weather. Should be coming over pretty soon. I got about 3 transmissions when Discovery came here last time.

Well, I got about 4 clear transmissions. Unfortunately I didn't get the "runway in sight" call. Didn't get a boom this time either. I think it went more over Riverside area this time.

That's how we will know that we really have usable spaceflight technology - when the weather on Earth is irrelevant to spaceborne operations.

The weather on Earth is irrelevant to space operations.

Regarding launch and reentry -- no matter what the technology, bringing a capsule or glider or powered craft down in a thunderstorm is not recommended. It's just not safe, and doubtful it'd be fun either!

I'm not talking about severe weather. I'm talking about routine weather conditions that any commercial airliner can deal with - rain, wind, clouds....
