Does anyone know what the car transmit frequency is for Badger Cab? The dispatcher transmits on 152.39, but the input frequency from the cabs is not published anywhere. (And, the cabbies cannot hear transmissions from other cabs, probably by design?) I've seen some of them carry scanners to hear the other traffic, but I never thought to ask what the frequency was...

Many taxi companies nationwide in the 152mhz.band are operating duplex, but some are on uhf too.
Ours operate on 464.0500mhz.

If they follow the pattern of most taxis the mobile frq will be 157.65 MHz.

Their FCC license has them licensed on:

Something to note here though, some of the cab co`s are going to ether digital (with encryption), or digital TRS (All American Taxi here in Wausau is an example, they went to digital trunked with encryption), so the days of the old two-freq simplex system are quickly going away, kinda sad i think, as sometimes listening to the cabbies can be fun (like on New Year`s Eve :)). Yeah,I agree. One of the taxi services here uses 464.0500 with a rptr. and operates with single inversion scrambling full time,as far as I can tell. I used to drive a taxi, and none of our traffic was ever special enough to warrant the use of any privacy.

Over at ScanNewEngland we have a pretty good WIKI
on TaxiCabs, with the Original Basic Frequency Pairs in a Table
which should help you out in your Taxi Monitoring

And i have to agree with you too, but from what i was told by one of the cabbies i know that works for All American the reason they went digitial with encryption was that "another cab company scanned our frequency", i believe what he meant was that one of the orher cab co`s was able to find and monitor their freq. And yes, i for one really don`t see the big deal there, but i`ll play devil`s advocate for a short, the other cab co in town here competes with All American Taxi, and the LAST thing they want is this other co beating `em to their pickups or stealing their potential fares (devil`s advocate done :)). Now, that being said, i still don`t see the need for a taxi co to be runnin` encryption, as there`s really nothing to listen to that really impresses me much, with the possible exception of New Year`s Eve, THEN i could see listening in...all them drunks to hear about wrecking cabs...big joy :). All American taxi did that because their competitor was stealing their fares using scanners.

Yeah, that`s kinda what i thought they`d done, to be honest i haven`t heard of that happening a lot myself, is this (cab co`s stealing each other`s fares) really that common? Ya would think these folks could just get along, guess i`m a bit wrong unfortunatly. Another question here, ya happen to know if All American Taxi is doing the trunked (mabey on an unpublished LTR SMR) thingy? Given that there`s two cab companies in this town it would seem a good thing to be doing, just to keep the other guys from listening in (like they did already :)), and also to keep pontential interference to somewhere below a "dull roar". Ok that makes sense. We had another company in town and they would monitor our fares, but we didn't have any problem from them since we had pretty loyal customers.

cab freqs

yeah, i thought that kinda stuff (stealing fares from your competitor) was a thing of the past and folks got along for the most part. Anyway, i find it kinda strange that cab co`s would engage in such nasty tactics. BTW, i`m also a ham, i can pm ya my QTH, as well as which repeaters i hang out on rather than mention it here and clog up the boards. 73. N9NRA

As Mick noted earlier, there are two frequency pairs. The 152.390 base with 157.650 mobile is the main pair used every day. The other pair is, as I recall, put into use on busy nights when they need a second dispatcher to handle the volume of traffic. They call it "splitting the city" and one frequency handles calls on the east side and the other the west. I'm not sure where the dividing line is. Their office is now on Cottage Grove Rd near the Beltline. I'm sure if you stopped and asked during the day, management would show you the dispatch center.

Badger is a very unique cab company. They are are shared-ride cab, meaing they will pick up multiple riders going in the same general direction. Sort of like a small bus with an unplanned route. It's not uncommon to have four passengers in the cab, each one picked up at a different location and all going to a different destination. And the driver is constantly listening for the dispatcher hoping to fill a seat as soon as someone gets out and they have room for another. It's hard mental work for the drivers and the dispatchers. Listen around bar time in the winter and you'll get a great lesson in the city street geography.
