Okay, I believe I asked this question before but can't find the thread.

This Sunday I'm going to be working in a neighborhood called Bala Cynwyd. I'm told that this isn't in Philly proper, but rather a suburb. I am wanting to know what Co. this neighrborhood is in, (Bucks?) or any freqs that would be pertenant to the area.

I apologize if I asked this question before. But I can't find the thread. I asked about it I think back in August. Thanks in advance.

{EDIT} It's near Lower Marion if that helps any

The town is in Montgomery County just across the street from Philadelphia. Load your scanner with Montgomery County's as well as Philadelphia's trunk systems. Philadelphia will make for some interesting listening.

Just one more question. Do I use the trunked system, or the conventional freqs, or both? Thanks alot for the help.

Which conventional freqs are you talking about? Montco's fire system is still not up on the trunk system yet. All of Phila's is. I would also suggest you program in SEPTA's police freq of 502.6875, no pl. If there is anything else specific let me know. I'll help if I can.

All of the freqs that are on the MontCo page. Also, do you have a CC for the MontCo TRS. The database deosn't list it. I programemd both the TRS and the conventional freqs, just to make sure I was covered.

Hey Justin!

I made out okay. The MontCo trunK wasn't coming in that clear, so I think I was in the wrong part of town. I was on Old Philadlphia Rd. off of City Line Ave. if that makes any sense. I programmed all of the freqs for MontCo TRS and two of them where control channels. I chose the one matching the SysID in the database. Anyways, I wound of listening to phily TRS most of the time. You know it sounds much better then the last time I was there. Have things been improving

Well, Montco is in the process of switching to 800mhz P25 -- a lot of existing sites will become P25 shortly.

As far as Philly, I am convinced that improvements were made on the voice. It used to be barely readable -- now it is a lot clearer. It just started getting clear recently. So yes, I agree it is a lot better.

Sounds almost as good as Baltimore City.

I didn't get alot of activity on either MontCo's trunk or conventional freqs so I think I was on thw wrong side of town.........

{EDIT}The lady at the rite-aid wasn't very helpful so I have no idea where I was. It was an act of God that I actually found the place, and got there on time.

{EDIT} Correction to my above post, I was on Old Lancaster Rd. off of City Line Ave.

Completely unrelated to the topic at hand - just how do you pronounce "Bala Cynwyd"? :D

I've noticed Philly is the land of no vowels. Bryn Mawr (sp?) comes to mind

We have a road with this very name in our 1st due area at work. We pronounce it "Bren-Marr," but have no idea if that's right or not. The dispatchers usually butcher it pretty bad too! :D

Sorry I found this thread so late.

Bala Cynwyd is a neighborhood of Lower Merion Township. Lower Merion has its own UHF EDACS system. Police and public works use this system. Fire units in Lower Merion are dispatched on low band 33.84 and use UHF portables for operations (with crossband back to 33.84 to call Montco dispatch). EMS units operate on the County trunked system which is now a Smartzone system. When you visited, the system was still the old Smartnet system and did not have very good coverage in that area.

Bryn Mawr and Bala Cynwyd are both derived from Welsh names.

Bala and Cynwyd were both towns in Wales. Bryn Mawr translates into "high hill", I believe.
