• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I know I have seen listings for 151.625 as the main channel.I had no idea as to the other channels
I live down the road from the Statesville airport in direct line of runway.
I'll put those into my scanner - thank you

We launch in downtown Troutman or all the way out in Cool Springs. All primary traffic is on 151.625 for the area. 455.125 is what 1 pilot flies around here locally on. There are 2 other pilots who have their own private channels that have PLs and DCS codes that I cannot give out.

Ok, the balloon mister (person in charge of balloons) is from Statesville. They are using the frequencies that are listed above with some sort of PL tone and DCS I know of. The radios that they use are bofengs UV-82s. These are for the balloons and the balloon staff.

A couple were up down south yesterday. I didn't have a scanner on me just work equipment so couldn't check. When I seen them this thread popped in mind. They use to go up over the weekend but so far nothing so not sure if anything changed in Southern NM. Never listened to the balloons before but seen them in past communicating with ground personnel. This is what I seen, pigs do fly by the way.

Yep. LOL. That balloon is "When Pigs Fly" flown by Doug Gant (I believe last name)

The Balloon Federation of America (Welcome to the BFA) is licensed to use 6 frequencies nationwide, and their members are authorized (encouraged?) to use them. Some of them are also licensed to the event coordinators. Should be interesting listening:

151.505
151.625
158.4
451.8
456.8
456.8125
