Just an FYI, but with a question....As of last Wednesday or Thursday the Baltimore City Fire Department has switched the frequency they simulcast their fireground activity on from 154.385 to 154.31, which was their original dispatch frequency. The question is, why?

Typically, TG C-1 is replayed on 154.385....and variable TGs are simulcast w/ 154.31 ......but if I recall correctly, 154.31 happens to be a present freq in the MSP helo radios - perhaps there was an op involving air support and the pairing was switched?

Spoke with a Lt. from fire communications. Apparently the 154.385 patch is not up all the time. Whenever a box comes in, communications has to manually apply the patch. This Lt. said that someone just got a little confused and applied the wrong patch. Simple as that. :)

A related issue: Sometimes, you can hear C5 talkgroup on 154.385. As well, you cannot always hear the dispatcher end of the discussion... But sometimes you can. It is very interesting.

Baltimore City Fire Frequency Change

Thanks Mo, that was the answer I was looking for, not an explanation of how the digital system works. As far as not hearing the dispatch side, the console operator in communications has the option of broadcasting his side of the radio transmission by just holding down or engaging a switch. There is one dispatcher, in particular, who seems to always do this and if he reads this board, it is greatly appreciated. They also have the option of rebroadcasting several incidents simutainiously on 154.385, but rarely do.
