• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

It's very widely used. It actually identifies the radio callsign of all patrol units. The first digit of the number is the district, and the second two indicate the actual post. Insert A, B, or C between them and you've got the radio callsign for that post. A is midnight, B is day, and C is evening. Some districts have changed to a flex or four-shift system and you'll hear D units as well, but the posts still apply.

I think rather than asking about use of post numbers, he was talking about the knowledge of that feature on the website.... and I had no idea that site existed, so kudos to you, Bill, thanks!

Not sure when they rolled that out or if they had just applied a revision, but it's rather buggy. I'm still trying to find a search option that doesn't lock it up or throw an error message...
