An article published in the Towson Times on August 22nd discusses a public hearing for a new 330 ft. Radio Tower in Cockeysville for PS and Md. State services. It also mentions the upgrading to a new statewide system and the use of 700Mhz. spectrum.

Hopefully, this will finally resolve the poor RF coverage across the top of the county and provide our responders with the radio coverage that they desperately need.

It's worth a quick read ..

What's the purpose of the monopole that was built within the last few years at the Baltimore County Electronic Services building on Gilroy Road - that has yet to be populated with any antennas?

Speaking of Baltimore County - power failure trouble right now at the dispatch center. So far they are managing OK - but there was a broadcast plan for police units to report to various fire stations, etc and standby (presumably for landline contact) if the dispatch center goes down fully.

....dispatch center is still operating off of portable radios on the 800 system. FMARS radios must be down - Balt Co not answering EMRC despite multiple calls. MEMA was advised of the situation on one of the MEMA freqs. Sounds like dispatchers are heading to the backup center shortly. All in all, they seem to be dealing with the situation rather well.

....backup dispatch center at Gilroy Rd. (Cockeysville) is signing on. I'm still not clear on how the Towson dispatch center ended up losing power.

FWIW- The proposed tower off of Warren Rd is NOT a Baltimore County tower. It will be a State of Maryland tower. That is not so say that the county could not obtain use permit of it but it will not be the county's.
