Does anyone have or know where I can get instructions for programming the correct band plan for a pro-96 to track a p25 800 mhz
trunking system.

No band plan is required the scanner will get the plan from the data on control channel.

Band plan was need to correctly track some VHF trunking systems like Virginia STARS, but your scanner will track on 800 if it is a standard system.

The system I want to listen to is a Digital P25 system. I was told the pro-96 will work
on an 800 mhz Analog system but would not work on an 800mhz Digital p25 trunking system unless the band plan is worked out through a set of directions first?

Unfortunately, no.. The Pro-96 and 2096 cannot utilize a band plan from a system's control channel. I can verify this as you have to program custom tables using the old Win96 or ARC96 apps to get some systems, like the ICI System here in Los Angeles to work. Newer scanners will get all the info they need from the control channel, but not these.

The ICI system uses UHF frequencies. I believe that 800 MHz frequencies will work OK with a normal or standard band plan. The older trunking scanners would work on 800 MHz trunked systems only.

I believe you are right.. When the Orange Co system was unencrypted, I used to monitor it on my Pro-96 without custom tables. I'm not sure, though if that was because they used a standard band plan or that it was an 800 MHz system. I suspect it was due to the band plan rather than the frequency. ICI uses a non-standard band plan which was a major pain to program on my Pro-96, but would have been a breeze on a newer scanner that gets its settings from the control channel.

Do you remember if the Orange County P25 system was using 800 MHz rebanded frequencies at the time (851, 852, 853)? I'm not sure if the firmware was updated to handle that for P25 systems. I know a custom 800 MHz rebanded band plan is required for Motorola Type II rebanded systems.

I am pretty certain I didn't have to do anything when they switched to P25. I was able to monitor the OCFA until they followed OCSD and went encrypted. When my Win 96 quit working and I switched to ARC 96, I lost my old files.

thanks! I have used ARC96 to program several scanners. Do you still have the old files in your PRO-96? You could download them into your ARC96 software.

I looked around my hard drive and even though I uninstalled Win 96 when it stopped working, I looked and I still have the old Win96 They are not .CSV files, but the old proprietary, Win96 format. I don't see a way to convert them to .CSVs and I don't have Win96 anymore.

Thanks so much for checking! The old PRO-96 was an awesome scanner in its day. I don't have one myself but have programmed several for firefighters in my area. All of the systems used 800 MHz frequencies. I had to do the VR4 adjustment on one of them to receive the Baltimore County MD P25 system.

What's the band plan for STARS?

What type scanner is this for?

I don’t think the SDS requires band plan for P25, even VHF.

It's for the PRO-96. The SDS doesn't require you to enter a bandplan as it will automatically download the required bandplan from the control channel.
That is correct! The band plan is for VA STARS on the PRO-96. The SDS100 and SDS200 do not require a band plan be entered for a P25 system. It will automatically be loaded from the control channel.
